Overview

I designed and developed a specialized online medical portal for Professor Giv Sharifi, an internationally recognized neurosurgeon specializing in brain and spinal surgery. Known for performing over 30,000 successful surgeries, the client needed an online platform designed to serve patients outside of Iran who require clinical information and remote medical services. The platform combines custom patient intake capabilities with automated publishing systems, creating a unified digital hub for both patient care and academic representation.

The Problem

With an extensive international reputation, the doctor needed a structured way to engage with patients residing abroad who wanted to seek remote consultation and medical services. Delivering these services required secure, custom-designed patient intake mechanisms that could handle admissions and online visitation scheduling remotely. Additionally, manually updating a growing list of scholarly publications and medical announcements was highly time-consuming, meaning the platform required an automated system to synchronize academic achievements and publishing workflows seamlessly.

My Approach

I managed the project end-to-end, acting as both the designer and developer to deliver a cohesive solution. I began by creating custom graphic designs to establish a professional visual framework aligned with the prestigious nature of the medical practice. For the development phase, I chose a full-stack approach, utilizing robust frontend and backend technologies to construct the core patient portal. To handle the background automation, I implemented workflows that link the system's content structures to external academic sources, ensuring the platform remains highly functional and easy to maintain without manual intervention.

The Solution

The completed platform coordinates several workflows into a unified patient and academic portal:

  • Patient Access and Admission: International patients visit the portal to read clinical details and access secure admission forms where they can input their medical history.
  • Online Visitation Scheduling: The system allows patients to request remote visitation and consult with the surgeon from abroad.
  • Academic Synchronization: I integrated the backend with Google Scholar to automate the retrieval and display of the surgeon's latest research articles, ensuring his online bibliography is updated automatically.
  • Automated Publishing: The system automatically publishes content updates and posts across the portal, reducing manual content management efforts.

Technical Stack

I selected these specific technologies to ensure the platform remains responsive, secure, and easily automated:

  • HTML: I used HTML to structure the user-facing web pages and patient forms.
  • CSS: I designed the layout styles and visual aesthetics using CSS to present a polished interface.
  • Python: I implemented Python on the backend to manage core platform logic and securely process incoming patient data.
  • JavaScript: I used JavaScript to build dynamic frontend features and interactive form validation elements.
  • n8n: I configured n8n to coordinate automated workflows, managing the background publishing and academic synchronization tasks.
  • Google Scholar: I established a platform integration with Google Scholar to dynamically import and update the doctor's published medical articles.

Results & Impact

This platform successfully centralizes patient coordination and academic tracking into a single, automated portal:

  • Provides an accessible gateway for international patients seeking world-class brain and spinal surgery consultations.
  • Supports remote patient intake and online visitation scheduling through structured digital forms.
  • Automates the display of academic research by linking directly to Google Scholar, ensuring the surgeon's research profile is always current.
  • Minimizes administrative overhead by automating the publishing of posts and updates across the website.

Key Takeaways

  • Streamlined international care: Custom patient intake forms and online visitation scheduling provide remote access for global patients.
  • Academic automation: Integrating Google Scholar allows the site to self-update with the latest scholarly articles, removing manual maintenance.
  • Workflow orchestration: Implementing n8n allows multiple backend and publishing systems to coordinate smoothly behind the scenes.
  • Full-stack delivery: Combining custom graphic design with end-to-end technical development established a professional, reliable clinical presence.
